El Roca Included in 2014 Liverpool City Cup Nominations

March 5th, 2014

After being scratched from the final field of last weekend’s Group 2 Hobartville Stakes, talented colt El Roca is poised to make his second appearance for 2014 in this weekend’s Liverpool City Cup (1300m) after being included in nominations for the Group 3 event.

Having produced a memorable debut preparation that included two wins and a second before finishing fifth behind Long John in the Group 1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m), El Roca has returned to the track in 2014 in blistering form, claiming the Listed Eskimo Prince Stakes (1200m) by two-lengths to Dissident and Romantic Touch.

Claiming early favouritism for last weekend’s Hobartville Stakes, El Roca was removed from the race by stewards at the eleventh hour after it was discovered he had received an illegal treatment on Friday.

Trainer Trent Busuttin was understandably dis-pleased with the controversial decision to scratch the exciting Fastnet Rock colt from the Hobartville Stakes, but it confident of claiming a second win for the season in the Liverpool City Cup.

Also included in nominations for the 2014 Liverpool City Cup is well-trialled gelding Pinwheel.

Having amassed 12 wins from 43 starts to date, Pinwheel is without doubt the most experienced runner nominations for the Liverpool City Cup, and has returned to the track in 2014 in strong form; finishing fourth in the Group 2 Expressway Stakes (1200m) and producing a strong sprint in the final straight of the Group 1 Futurity Stakes (1400m) on February 22nd to finish third.

At eight-years-old, 2014 is likely to be the last competitive racing season for Pinwheel, who appears to be continually building in form in 2014.

Fellow Peter Snowden-trained runner Cameo is on track for a first-up appearance in the 2014 Liver City Cup, and will be hoping to re-find the form of autumn 2013, which most notably delivered a win in the Group 3 Keith Nolan Classic (1600m).

Of the 17 runners included in nominations for the 2014 Liverpool City Cup, nine currently display an Hcp Rating of 100 or more.
