El Roca Confirmed in 2014 Liverpool City Cup Final Field

March 5th, 2014

A talented field of 12 has been confirmed for the 2014 Liverpool City Cup (1300m), highlighted by the acceptance of classy three-year-old El Roca for the Group 3 race at Warwick Farm this weekend.

Having scored three wins from only five starts in his short racing career so far, El Roca has returned to the track in 2014 in prime condition, comfortably strolling home two lengths in the clear to claim the Listed Eskimo Prince Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill on February 15th.

Having accepted for the Group 2 Hobartville Stakes (1400m) last weekend, El Roca was found to have received an illegal treatment on Friday and was removed from the final field at the eleventh hour, at which point he had registered at resounding favourite for the event.

Trainer Trent Busuttin, while disappointed by the ruling, conceded nothing could be done by the rules of the sport and is confident in El Roca continuing his perfect start to 2014 in the Liverpool City Cup.

Trainer Peter Snowden will be offered twice the chance of securing 2014 Liverpool City Cup glory this weekend, having accepted positions for Pinwheel and Cameo.

Well-trialled eight-year-old Pinwheel has amassed 12 wins from 43 starts since debuting on course in 2008, and appears to have returned to the track in 2014 in great condition.

Finishing an unlucky fourth behind Appearance, River Lad and Sizzling in the Group 2 Expressway Stakes first-up on February 8th, the talented Lonhro gelding ran a strong third in the Group 1 Futurity Stakes on February 22nd, proving his not just there to make up the numbers.

Having drawn the ideal barrier 5 for the 2014 Liverpool City Cup, Pinwheel is faced with a legitimate opportunity to continue building towards appearances in the autumn’s late Group 1 events.

Cameo will make her first-up appearance for 2014 in the Liverpool City Cup, having returned to the spelling paddock at the end of a long and relatively unsuccessful 2013 spring.

Known for her strong performances in autumn races, Snowden is confident of a strong race from the Shamardal mare after drawing the strong barrier 4.
